Sunflowers for Ukraine

Handmade Sunflower Prayer Flower Pins
by M.MAC / Dyanne McGrath

This is a sad and unprecedented time in our world. I am sure like myself, you find yourself deeply troubled by the war in Ukraine. Just think about it, before February 24th, families were going on picnics, children were attending school. That world in Ukraine is upside down now.
Many have found a need to try and help. In my little way, I felt the same. My forte has always been using my skills with fabric, designing and creating clothing. Many of you supported me when I was sewing masks to raise money for veterans and for the veterans themselves. I managed to sew over 1,500 masks over the time of the pandemic.
I came up with the idea of a fabric flower pin which I named “Prayer Flower” years ago when a dear friend was terminally ill. Each flower I hand-sewed was made with a prayer for her. I gave many of these prayer flowers to friends and others, so that those prayers could be extended to others.
Original Prayer Flowers
I am sewing Sunflower Prayer Flower Pins for the people of Ukraine, particularly the children, innocent victims of war created by adults, in hopes of raising funds for them.

One hundred percent of the funds raised from the sale of these Sunflower Prayer Flowers will be donated to UNICEF.

Our foundation, the Lauren F. Bruner USS Arizona Memorial Foundation, will cover all material and mailing costs. I plan to hand-sew each one and will enlist others to help me, if need be.   This foundation was founded to help others; Lauren, himself, a survivor of the bombing of the USS Arizona, experienced the first-hand the horrors of war. Lauren Bruner would be in total support of this project.
